Since returning home to Virginia Beach for the summer, I felt it was time for a bedroom refresh. I decided to transform my bedroom into a sanctuary that mirrors my personal style and experiences. My vision was to create a space that was warm, cozy, inviting, and a little bit of all the things I love. Through thoughtful collecting, I subtly blended elements of the beach with the desert and mountains along with some of my favorite volleyball memories. A challenge I previously found difficult to pull all together.
One of my favorite additions has been a hanging hammock chair nestled in the corner by the windows. It has quickly become my go-to spot for phone calls, engaging conversations with my sister, or simply unwinding with a good book. My dad and I also took on a DIY project, crafting bookshelves that seamlessly fit the space and allow the TV to hover freely above. Displayed throughout the room are memorabilia from NCAA Final Fours and memorable road trips across the country, each piece contributing to the room's narrative.
However, the true star of the transformation is the James Alexander Limewash Paint. Having fallen for limewash some time ago, it was exciting to finally incorporate it into my own space. I chose the color Calcare, which perfectly complements the warm, airy atmosphere I aimed to create. It couldn't have been more fun to apply, with a thick block brush I felt like a true painter without the pressure of screwing up.
Limewash has a unique charm that sets it apart from other wall finishes. The application process is both enjoyable and rewarding. Here’s a quick overview of the limewash process using James Alexander Paint:
1. **Preparation**: Begin by preparing your wall surface. Ensure it is clean, dry, and free from any loose debris. Limewash is best applied to porous surfaces, so a fresh, unpainted wall or one with an existing limewash base is ideal.
2. **Primer Application**: Apply a primer suited for limewash. This step ensures better adhesion and even coverage. James Alexander offers a primer specifically designed to enhance the limewash's performance and appearance.
3. **Mixing the Limewash**: James Alexander Limewash Paint comes in a powdered form that you mix with water to achieve the desired consistency. Follow the instructions provided with the paint to get the perfect blend.
4. **Application**: Using a thick block brush, apply the limewash in a series of X strokes. This technique helps to create a beautiful interplay of shadows and light spots, contributing to the paint's characteristic depth and texture. The Calcare color I selected has a lovely, understated elegance that allows light to interact with the surface, creating a dynamic visual effect.
5. **Drying and Curing**: Allow the limewash to dry thoroughly between coats. Limewash needs time to cure, so be patient as it develops its final appearance. The result is a stunning, light-reflective surface that adds a sophisticated touch to any room.
